Prof. Aimetti host to the Ministry of Health

Prof. Aimetti, as Elected President of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology, has been invited to attend the conference organized by Senior Italia FederAnziani (Federation of third age associations founded in 2006 with the aim of protecting rights and improving the quality of life of senior people). During his speech he reminded that, the main purpose of the society he represents, is to promote periodontal health within the population, through scientific research, continuously updating and training dentists about Periodontology, Implantology and related medical discipline.

As he explained: periodontitis is the sixth most commonly occurring disease in the world and its prevalence, according to studies, is  between 40 and 50% of the population.

The systemic effects deriving from bacteremia and periodontitis-induced inflammation, make it the sixth complication of diabetes and also have significant repercussions on atheroma pathology.

The Professor also pointed out that 31% of the people between 65 and 74 years old, have many difficulties to reach the National Healthcare System for dental care and that public facilities provide only 5% of the above mentioned care. From ISTAT data, emerges that only 27% of periodontitis patients are aware of their pathology and only 9% of them, who has approached a dentist, are diagnosed with periodontitis.
