The European Congress of Periodontology was held in Copenhagen from the 15th to the 18th of  June.

Professor Aimetti was Chair speaker of the session on the treatment of stage IV periodontitis.

At EuroPerio10, the EFP announced also the winners of the first EFP Innovation Award for Digital Solutions for Gum Health, which seeks to recognise digital-technology projects for patients, dentists, and researchers that will contribute to gum health.

The third prize of €4,000 was awarded to AI-PERIO: integration of gum health perception and periodontitis prevention on an artificial intelligence-based mobile application for tackling low-grade chronic systemic inflammation, from Giacomo Baima and Mario Aimetti of the EFP-accredited postgraduate programme in periodontology at the University of Turin in collaboration with the Anti-Inflammaging Company.

The School of Periodontology of the University of Turin at the SIdP Meeting in Bologna. The topic was “Management of furcation – involved teeth in patients with periodontal disease”.

Even the hygienists of our “Master in Dental Hygienist expert in the treatment of periodontal diseases” have participated in the refresher course of the SIdP.

Finally, Professor Aimetti, Doctor Mariani and Doctor Baima competed in the SIdP Run for Gums race.

On Friday 25th February, four ex students of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontology took the exam to become certified members of the European Federation of Periodontology.

Dr. Giacomo Baima, Dr. Mario De Caroli, Dr. Giovanni Iaderosa and Dr. Virginia Lorenzetti took the exam with an external Commission, composed by Prof. Nart, and the internal Commission, composed by Prof. Aimetti, Dr. Mariani and Dr. Romano.

Each of them presented some clinical cases, treated by themselves and the research project they worked on during the three years of post-graduate Program.

The Commission considered that the four candidates were eligible, therefore: congratulations to the new members certified by the European Federation of Periodontology!

In this article I will introduce you our new Periodontology students:

Dr.Giampiero Dinota

Graduated with 110 and honours in Dentistry at the University of Foggia, Italy, in July 2020. Research thesis in Periodontology: “Evaluation of the Biologic Width of natural teeth by the combination of surface scans and cone beam computed tomography”. Internship in many dental clinics in Meran, Ferrara and Potenza, Italy. Annual Periodontics Course (Dr. Stefano Parma Benfenati). Private Practice in Fermo, Italy, with skills in conservative dentistry, endodontics, CAD / CAM design, digital dentistry and oral surgery and in particular in fixed and removable dental prosthesis, surgical and non-surgical periodontology, computer guided implantology, implant prosthesis.

Dr. Waed Haddad

Waed Haddad attends dental school at Jordan University of Science and Technology. She completed her degree in 2015. After that she completed internship at the university for one year. Then she works as a general dentist in private clinic from 2016- until now. She has passed National Board Dental Examination Of American in 2018 and has completed a comprehensive course in implantology in 2017. Through her clinical experiences she did many campaigns for oral health awareness.

Dr. Sompol Chuachamsai 

Dr Chuachamsai is a dentist from Bangkok, Thailand. He received the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery from Chiang Mai University in northern Thailand. After practising general dentistry in private practices in Bangkok for a few years, he went to the University of Hong Kong to receive training in implant dentistry. There, he learned to place and restore dental implants and developed a great interest in Periodontology. He decided to join the department of Periodontology at the University of Turin to gain his knowledge and experience in periodontal surgery and management of periodontal diseases.

Dr. Andrea di Venanzio

Pisa 23/01/1995. Graduated in 2020 with a degree in Dentistry; C.I.R. Dental School, University of Turin-Italy. Degree Thesis in Periodontology at Department of Periodontology, Supervisor: Prof. Mario Aimetti. Oral Presentation at Italian conference on Periodontology. One year of full time private practice.

On 29 and 30 October 2021 at the Institute of Anatomy in Corso Massimo d’Azeglio 52 the anatomical dissection course was held for the students of the periodontology master of all three years.

The students followed the sinus endoscopy seminar organized by Doctor Maurizio Catalani and the proper anatomical dissection seminar by Doctor Romed Hoermann of the University of Innsbruck.

We thank both doctors for their highly formative contributions and leave you with some photos of the days.

The XX International SIdP Congress “New guidelines in Periodontology: Impact in the treatment of patients with stage III periodontitis” was held at the Congress Palace in Rimini from 23 to 25 September and the School of Periodontology of the University of Turin joined not only as audience but also with reports by Prof. Aimetti, Dr. Mariani, Dr. Baima, Dr. Citterio and Dr. Vidotto.

Congratulations to Dr. Citterio who won the “G. Cardaropoli ”with the work“ Pocket closure: a multilevel analysis of patients with stage III-IV periodontitis ”.

Dr. Baima took part for the “G. Vogel ” prize for the best clinical case and Dr. Vidotto for the” M. Cagidiaco” prize dedicated to dental hygienists.

The Turin School of Periodontology left its mark on the SIdP – 21st National Congress through the Lectio Magistralis of Prof. Mario Aimetti, regarding updates about the new guidelines for the treatment of periodontitis.

Dr. Mariani, then, confirmed herself as a first level speaker during her exhaustive examination about the strategies for the control of oral bacterial biofilm.

Also noteworthy are Dr. Giacomo Baima and Dr. Ahmad Bebars at their first participation respectively in the prestigious Vogel Prize for the best clinical case, and the Goldman Prize for the best research. Every year the students of the School are called to express their knowledge and skills at an international level, and this time the level was very high too.

Dr. Ahmad Bebars, Dr. Alexandra Castiblanco and Dr. Luigi Costanzo took the exam with an external Commission, composed by Prof. Nart, and the internal Commission, composed by Prof. Aimetti, Dr. Mariani and Dr. Romano.

Each of them presented a clinical case, treated by themselves and the research project they worked on during the three years of post-graduate Program.

On 15th February was held the Congress that celebrate the 10 years of the Dental School, at the Turin Automobile Museum.

A lot of mentor spoke, first of all Prof. Preti with a wonderful Lectio Magistralis.

In this occasion, Prof. Aimetti held a report on the relationship between periodontitis and systemic health, deepening the causal connection and the role of inflammation control.

The conference was preceded on Friday by some theoretical-practical workshops including the one in Periodontology held by Prof. Aimetti together with Dr. Mariani, Dr. Giraudi and Dr. Fratini. Participants had a way to practice reconstructive periodontal surgery techniques applied on animal models.

Two days full of events to celebrate the first 10 years of school!

The opening ceremony of the 1st edition of the Master in Dental Hygenist expert in the treatment of periodontal disease took place on 31st January, under the direction of the Prof. Aimetti.

This first meeting was a great success, the group of hygienists was very interested and motivated.

After the welcome of Prof. Aimetti,  the exciting lessons of Prof. Cairo, Dr. Gualini and Dr. Mariani followed.
