Final thesis of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontology

Last week the students of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontology ended the academic year.
Each of them took an exam with the teaching staff and presented a complex clinical case treated during the Postgraduate training period.
After photos and official proclamation, cheers for the reached goal and the coming Christmas holidays!

R. Earl Robinson Award

On November 2nd 2019, the opening ceremony of the annual meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology was held in Chicago, Illinois.

On this occasion, has been assigned, by the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, the R. Earl Robinson Periodontal Regeneration Award for the most original research published in 2018 in the field of periodontal regeneration. 

It is a great honor to announce that the University of Turin Periodontology won this award. The Authors awarded: Ferrarotti, Romano, Gamba, Giraudi, Audagna, Quirico and Prof. Aimetti with the paper entitled “Human intrabony defect regeneration with micrografts containing dental pulp stem cells: A randomized controlled clinical trial”.

SIdP meeting

On 4th and 5th October 2019 the SIdP meeting on the care of patients with stage III and IV periodontitis was held in Turin.

Postgraduate students and tutors in periodontology have participated, following the expert’s reports, which have shown how to treat advanced cases also from a multidisciplinary point of view.

 

On Saturday, Dr. Martina Arena, a dental hygienist who follows Postgraduate students in the non-surgical therapy of their patients, presented her graduation thesis in the plenary with the title “Correlation between clinical and biomolecular parameters of inflammation after non-surgical treatment of chronic periodontitis “, with which she won the Marcello Cattabriga award in 2018.

Symposium EFP

On September, students and tutors of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontology took part in the Symposium of the European periodontology schools held in Gothenburg.

The reports of professors from all over Europe focused on the various aspects of the discipline, with particular attention to peri-implantitis and mucogingival surgery.

The European schools have presented clinical cases and research projects. Our student Ahmad Bebars presented a clinical case he had treated at the C.I.R. Dental School of the University of Turin.

Certified EFP members

Last week, four former students who completed the postgraduate program in Periodontology in 2018 took the exam to become certified members of the European Federation of Periodontology.

Dr. Federico Deli, Dr. Wilma Del Buono, Dr. Sara Mohammed and Dr. Fahad Zafar presented a clinical case and the research project of which they have dealt with over the three years to the external member, prof. Mariano Sanz, and to the internal members, Prof. Aimetti, Dr. Giulia Mariani and Dr. Federica Romano.

The Committee considered that all four candidates were eligible, so we congratulate the new members certified by the European Federation of Periodontology!

13th International Symposium of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry in Boston

From 6 to 9 June 2019 the 13th International Symposium of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry was held in Boston.

On this occasion, Prof. Aimetti had a lecture on therapeutic alternatives to obtain root coverage in the treatment of multiple recessions. In particular, the possibility of using palatal connective tissue substitutes to decrease patient morbidity was analyzed.

It was a very important congress, as multidisciplinary aspects were discussed by 86 clinicians, researchers and academics who at this moment represent the élite of dentistry.

Perio Clinical Lab 2019

Last weekend the second edition of the Perio Clinical Lab was held.

Prof. Aimetti, the students of the Post-graduate Program in Periodontology and all the tutors spent two days in the Langhe, alternating moments of discussion of complex clinical cases with convivial moments. The event was possible thanks to the support of Biomax, Geistlich and Kulzer.

The group is more united and numerous every year!

60th Anniversary of SEPA

From May 29th to June 1st 2019 the Congress of the SEPA (Spanish Society of Periodontology) was held in Valencia on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the prestigious society.

Students and tutors of the University of Turin Postgraduate Program in Periodontology attended the event with great enthusiasm. Prof. Aimetti gave a lecture on the state of the art in the decision-making process that leads to a surgical treatment plan or not, considering not only the clinical indications, but also the patient’s needs.

These events are an opportunity for continuing education and moments of aggregation of a group linked not only from the working but also from the human point of view.

New SIdP Active Member

During XIX International Congress of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology, held in Rimini last March, dr. Filippo Citterio, a former student of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontology, became an Active Member of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology and won the Goldman Award for basic science with the work “Comparison of different chemical and mechanical decontamination modalities on titanium dental implants: microbiological and biocompatibility analyses”.

After years of study and preparation, in front of the Active Member Acceptance Committee, the colleague discussed a clinical case prepared during the Postgraduate Program.

Great satisfaction and a source of pride for him to be able to actively participate in a prestigious society such as SIdP.

Alumni annual meeting

The 13th alumni meeting of the Postgraduate Program in Periodontology was held on February.

The event was attended by Prof. Ubele Van der Velden, who gave a lecture on the etiology of periodontal disease and the strategies for a correct treatment plan. All the students of the Advanced Education in Periodontology and many former students of the school participated in the meeting, that was a moment of great cultural growth and also a convivial moment that we use to share every year.

We thank Prof. Van der Velden for giving us this experience!
